Scene Support Operations
Scene Support Technicians perform what are called exterior operations. They provide support for fire activities that arise before, during and after fire attack. This would include retrieving tools and other equipment, operating these tools and equipment, handling hose lines (outside the fire building), assisting interior firefighters with changing air bottles, carrying and raising ladders, keeping track of how long and where interior crews are operating, perform auto extrication, assist truck operators with making hose connections, traffic control, set up lighting, extinguishing grass and brush fires, and the cleaning and putting away of equipment.
Those interested in becoming a Scene Support Technician will take the Scene Support Operations Course where students will learn skills on Fire, Tool and Scene Safety, Fire Behavior and Development, Personal Protective Equipment and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Practices (excluding donning and doffing of SCBA), Communication and Incident Management System Principles, Fire Prevention and Investigation Principles, Fire Extinguishers, Hose Practices (excluding fire advancement and attack), Water Supply, Nozzles and Fire Streams, Ground Ladder Operations, Ropes and Knots. The course is derived from the Fire Fighter 1 curriculum.
