E-23-12
This is the second due to all fires in the Cottekill Fire District. It's primary mission is Water Supply. It also carries hose loads, tools and equipment for structural, wild-land and nusance fires, but also carries those items needed to establish a water supply. Secondary missions include motor vehicle crashes, minor HazMat spills, tree and wires incidents and responds as an engine under mutual aid to fill tankers.
Pump Operator's Pannel
Just like E-23-11, this unit has a 1250 gallon per minute pump (gpm) and has eight water outlets (discharges). Connected to the 6" inlet is an Akron butterfly valve. The 2-way radio is located in the small door to the right of the speaker.
Preconnects 1, 2 & 3 (pictured from right side)
This unit does not have an extended bumper nor a discharge at the front. Instead it has three preconnects above the pump. All three lines are duplicates of E-23-11. The only difference is the house lines are colored red and green so that there is no confusion on the fire ground if lines are pulled from both trucks. The trash line is stored in preconnect #1. The 200' of 1 3/4" with the Saberjet Nozzle is stored in preconnect #2 and is the red line. The green line is the 200' of 2" attack hose with a 15/16" smooth bore tip.
Driver/Operator's Compartment (L1)
In this operator's compartment are most of the same items. There are two sets of 2 1/2" double males and double females adapters; a 4" storz to 5" storz adapter; a 4 1/2" female to 6" female adapter; a 6" double female adapter; a rubber mallet; a set of spanner wrenches & LDH spanner wrenches; a 2 1/2" smooth bore nozzles (1) with 1" tips and the other with a 1 1/8" tip; (2) 1 1/2" fog nozzles; a hose strap; a 2 1/2" x (2) 1 1/2" gated wye; and a 2 1/2" x (2) 2 1/2" gated wye.
Left Middle Compartment (L2) -
There are absorbant pads and socks to handle minor Hazmat spills and there are (2) 12' x 18' salvage tarps stored in this compartment.
Left Rear Compartment (L3)
Here we carry a PRO/pak foam unit that has Class "A" foam. Next to it is the additioanal foam.
Forward Highside Compartment (L4)
Just above the operator's compartment is the forward highside. (2) SCBAs and a Carbon Monoxide meter are located in this compartment.
Middle Highside Compartment (L5)
Two flashlights in charges; two more SCBA; two Beil tools; and a mounting bracket fot the Thermal Imaging Camera can be found in this compartment.
Rear Highside Compartment (L6)
This compartment has (4) 100' lengths of forestry hose and (2) water vests. The vests hold 7 gallons of water and have a hand pump nozzle. We use these to fight wild-land fires that are not reachable by hose lines.
Left Rear Beaver Tail (L7)
Unlike E-23-11 this unit has compartments built on the outside of the beaver tails. On the left side we store our long handle tools for fighting wild-land fires: a brush broom; spade shovel; (2) council raked; (2) leaf rakes and a palaski tool.
Prepared to supply or recieve water is this trucks main job. To assist in that operation, this truck has a 5 way manifold preconected to its 5" LDH supply. Just above that is a 2 1/2" discharge with a 2 1/2" x 4" elbow.
Hose Bed
This trucks hose bed is a litle different to that of E-23-11. The red supply line is 3" and there is 500' of it. The yellow hose is 5" LDH and we carry 1100' here.
Tail Step Compartment (B1)
Another difference in this truck is it has one large compartment off the back end. Here we carry six spare SCBA bottles; 100' of electrical cord; spare fuel; 25', 50' and 200' lengths of rope. Slince this truck does not have a dump valve we also store two 2' lengths of 3" hard suction tubes that only have couplings on one end. We attach them to either the two rear discharges or the two right side discharges to allow us to pump off its 1500 gallon load of water. We have mounted our flat head and pick head axes on the insides of the double doors of this compartment. The upper tray hold a halligan bar and a set of bolt cutters.
Right Forward Compartment (R1)
This unit only has 2 1/2" discharges so to get the full 1250gpm out of it we must utilize two of those discharges and bring them in to one line. On the top rollout tray is a 4" storz siamese with (2) 2 1/2" inlets. To compliment this side of the truck as on 2311 there is a 4 1/2" female x 5" Storz adapter; a 5" x 4" Storz reducer; a hydrant wrench and 2 ladder belts. Under the tray we store (2) 50' lemgths of 3" supply hose
.
Right Middle Compartment (R2)
This compartment holds the floating strainer; a 2 1/2" basket; a 10' and a 50' length of 4" LDH.
Right Rear Compartment (R3)
Here we have a Honda 1000 watt generator with a 500 watt light attached to it. Next to it is a standard 18" chain saw and a set of chaps. We use this for cutting downed trees in roadways or to clear away fuel in a wild-land fire.
Right Rear Beaver Tail (R4)
As on the other side of the truck the beaver tail has a compartment. We store a dry chemical fire extiguisher in this compartment along with a 500gpm nozzle and tigh down strap for the TFT Blitzfire personal portable monitor (pictured below under Right Side)
Right Side
A full complinent of ladders and hooks are carried on the right side of the truck. There is an 8' and a 10' pike pole; a 24' extention ladder; a 14' roof ladder; (2) 10' x 6" hard suction hose; and (2) 10' x 2 1/2" hard suction. Just above the hooks is a TFT Blitzfire Partable Monitor. It is capable of flowing 500gpm and can be deployed by just one firefighter.
Right Side Pump Pannel
Just like on E-23-11 we have mounted a TFT Jumbo Ball Intake Valve to the 6" steamer connection. It also has an adapter to allow connection to a 4" LDH supply line. Remove it and the valve is ready to accept a 6" hard suction line. As a water supply unit it will arrive on a scene and start pumping water to the attack truck from its 1500 gallon tank. In the mean time the hard suction can be hooked up, and the drop tanks filled, whithout interupting the flow from from the tank. Once the drop tank is filed the gate can be opened and the operator can establish a draft from the drop tank. This is a very tricky maneuver, as opening the gate too fast can cause a sudden drop in pressure going to the attack truck.
Top Deck
The top deck of this truck is very different than that of E-23-11. There is a trough that we store the (2) 6' hooks in as well as (5) traffic cones. On the flat deck covering the preconnects is a tripod with (2) 500watt light heads. Mounted through the body on each side there are telescoping scene lights. Over the left highside compartments there is 100' of 2" hose bundled together, sometimes refered to as a high rise pack. We use it to extend hose lines. Behind the hose bundle is a hose clamp.
