This is first due on most incidents within the Cottekill Fire District. It's primary mission is Fire Attack. It carries hose loads, tools and equipment for structural, vehicle, and nusance fires. Secondary missions include medical emergecies, motor vehicle crashes, minor HazMat spills and responds as an engine or a tanker under mutual aid to other fire districts.
Pump Operator's Pannel
The work horse of the fire service. This is a typical pump pannel of a fire truck. The driver/operator, sometimes called the engineer, will spend 90% of his/her time manning these controls. Although not the most glorious job in the fire service, with out the engineer the attack crew would not get the water they need to put out the fire.
This unit has a 1250 gallon per minute pump (gpm) and has eight water outlets (discharges). Connected to the 6" inlet is an Akron butterfly valve. This allows for connecting the suction hose to the pump while the truck is already flowing water, as the inlets are not gated. In the running borad is (2) 25' lengths of 3" supply hose.
Preconnects 1 & 2
These are house lines. They are the first hoses pulled when arriving at a house fire. They are color coded to match the control handle that operats them. The orange line is 200' of 1 3/4" attack hose. It has a Saberjet Nozzle that allows the nozzleman to use either a fog pattern or a smooth bore. The smooth bore is a 7/8" tip. This line can produe 155gpm @ 50psi and 200gpm @ 80psi. The yellow line is 200' of 2" attack hose with a 15/16" smooth bore tip. This line has a powerful punch when it comes to stuburne fires flowing 182gpm @ 50psi and 230gpm @ 80psi. Both lines are packed on the truck as what is called a minuteman hose load. A single firefighter can stretch one of these lines by carrying the entire load on their shoulder.
Driver/Operator's Compartment (L1)
Just about all fire trucks with side mounted pump pannels have the operator's compartment next to the pannel. Here the operator of the vehicle has most of the tools he/she will need to make connections to the pump and hoses along with some other items. There are two sets of 2 1/2" double male and double female adapters; a set of 1 1/2" double male and double female adapters; a 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" reducer; a 4 1/2" to 6" double female adapter; 6" double femalea rubber mallet; a set of spanner wrenches; a 2 1/2" smooth bore play pipe with 1 1/8" tip; a 2 1/2" x (2) 1 1/2" gated wye; a 2 1/2" x (2) 2 1/2" gated wye; an EMS bag; hand tool extrication kit; ground base for a TFT Crossfire deluge gun with a single 4" inlet; a set of sockets; a case of bottled water and a roll of paper towels.
On the upper shelf there is a short D handle square shovel. Below in a roll out tray is a PRO/pak foam unit. It holds 2.5 gallons of Class "B" foam. Next to it is an additional 5 gallons of foam. Behind the PRO/pak is a Cutters Edge roof ventilation saw. It is used to cut through roofs and other building materials to open holes for removing smoke and other super heated gasses and to make openings for means of entering and exiting a building. Notice the large filter mounted on top. That is to prevent the saw from choking (stalling) while in smokey environments.
Just above the operator's compartment is the forward highside. You will find the 2-way radio along with more forcable entry tools. Includded is a sledge hammer; 36" bolt cutters; two biel tools; a halligan tool; a hydra-ram forcable entry tool;and a push broom. The tools in this compartment and the next one are secured with the PACtrac system. This is a wall board and special mounts that allows you to move, subtract and add tools with out having to re-drill or leave holes in the side of the truck.
Rear Highside Compartment Alternate Access
As memntioned above the two 6' hooks are accessed through a door at the end of the highsides. Here is that access. We also store dust masks here.
Tail Step & Right Side
Off the tail of the truck is where larger handlines and supply lines are pack as well as storage of other equipment. The large square chute is called a dump valve. This valve is used to empty (dump) the entire load of water on the truck into what looks like a portable pool. These pools are called drop tanks or fold-a-tanks. They are set up at the scene of a fire and tankers dump their water into them and go get more water. We have to use these because there is no municipal water system (fire hydrants) in Cottekill. The chute is in the extended position in this photo. When not in use it slides into the rear of the truck. Under the chute is a three way manifold 4" storz inlet x 4" storz outlet and (2) 2 1/2" outlets. We aslo carry 5 traffic cones on the tail step
A full complinent of ladders and hooks are carried on the right side of the truck. There is a 10' pike pole; and two 8' multipurpose hooks; a 24' extention ladder; a 14' roof ladder; and (2) 10' x 6" hard suction hose. In the wheel wells on both sides are a total of 4 spare SCBA bottles. Mounted on the outside of the right beavertail is a pick head axe, and on the outside of the left beavertail is a flat head axe.

Hose Bed
Starting at the left is the 2 1/2" attack line. There is 100' preconnected with another 100' underneath in a dead load. It has a 1" smoothbore tip that when supplied at 50psi, delivers 210gpm and @ 80psi it will hit a fire with 262gpm. Take that off and replace it with one of the 1 1/8" tip playpipe and you will knock the snot out of a fire with almost 320gpm with 80psi at the tip. This line is used for large fires and is the first line pulled on any commercial building fire. Next is the red hose. That is 350' of 3" supply hose used for short lays between trucks. For the longer lays we carry 1000' of 4" yellow supply line, aka large diameter hose (LDH). Finally all the way to the right is an attick ladder. It is a short narrow folding ladder used to get in small hallways or closets to access the attic. To the right is another valve. That is the 2 1/2" dierct tank fill. It works hand in hand with the dump valve when the truck is operating as a tanker in a shuttle. Just above that is the water level guage showing how much water is in hte truck. Above that is a camera. It is linked to a monitor in the cab of the truck so the driver and see what is directly behind the truck.

Upper Tail Step Compartment (B1)
Stored in this compartment is a spill kit; a 8' x 10' utility tarp; two 12' x 18' salvage tarps; a 5 gallon pale of oil absorbant; and a chimney fire kit.
Left & Right Tail Step Compartments (right not shown) (B2 & B3)
On the doors are flashlights for directing the truck while backing. Mounted in the back of the left compartment is a water extinguisher and on the right is a dry chemical extinguisher. Tucked under the the dump valve are two 500watt ground lights. Also not pictured are (3) rope bags. One hold 25', the second 50' and the third 200'.
Right Forward Compartment (R1)
On the top slideout tray is the fouth SCBA. It is placed here to allow for quick donning of the pack by the unit's officer or passanger. Also in this what is called a RIT pack. This is used to assist a downed firefighter trapped in a building or is simpley low on air. It has (2) ways of connecting to the firefighters SCBA to provide him/her with additional air. In the bottom slideout tray are appliances used with the passanger side pump pannel. A low level strainer; hydrant gate; 4 1/2" x 5" Storz; (2) 4" x 5" Storz adapters a set of LDH spanners; a set of standard spanners and (2) hydrant wrenchs. Although there are no hydrants in our fire district, there are hydrants in High Falls, Rosendale and at the Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge. As a mutual aid engine responsable for water supply, we find it necessary to carry tools to connect to a fire hydrant.
Right Rear Compartment (R2)
In this compartment we keep a 2000watt Honda portable generator that has a 500watt light attached to it; two 500watt ground lights; and a 16" electric box fan.
Right Side Pump Pannel
Moving big water. At the top right is a 3" discharge with a 3" x 4" storz adapter. This single outlet will flow the full capacity of the truck (1250gpm). Below that and slightly to the left is a 2 1/2" inlet. To the lower left of the discharge is a TFT Jumbo Ball Intake Valve connected to the 6" inlet. It has a 6" male inlet with a 6" x 4" storz adapter. This configuration allows for both drafting as well as receiving water under pressure on the same side of the truck without having to remove the valve. In this sides running board is a 10' and a 30' length of 4" LDH.
Passanger Compartment
Under the passangers seat we store our MSA 5600 Thermal Imaging Camera. This is one of the most technological advanced tools in the fire service. It allows us to see through dark or smoke filled rooms. We use it to locate victims; the seat of a fire; and fires hidden in walls. The basic principal is that everything has a heat signature and this device reads those signatures and displays them as an image on the viewing screen. Also under the seat are traffic vests; road flares and fire line tape.
Top Deck
Up on the top deck above the pump is a 3" discharge with a TFT Crossfire deck gun. It has four stacked smooth bore tips, 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 1 3/4", and 2". At 80psi it will flow 400gpm, 600gpm, 800gpm, and 1000gpm in respect to the tips mentioned. It will flow the 1250gpm capacity with the 2" tip @ 110psi.
Front Extended Bumper
In this 20" extended bumper is a 50' 1 3/4" trash line. It is used for vehicle dumpster; and small roadside fires. Mounted on the deck of the bumper is a peircing nozzle. It is used to punch through the sheet metal of a engine hood, but can be used to knock through a trailer side wall; any interior wall; or a roof to get to the attic space.
